To those who are thinking of joining the priesthood I suggest reflecting upon God’s call with faith, but do not to think too much, male sure that you prayer over it. God loves you and you should discern carefully and seriously which is the way He wants you to live His Love for you.
I entered Priestly Formation in 2006. I am currently doing my theological studies at Redemptoris Mater Seminary. My home parish is Saint Rita’s in Queens. I have been a seminarian for 3 years. I have a Bachelor degree in Cartographic Engineering. After I graduated, I worked for 4 years as an Engineer. I was born in Fortaleza-Ceara in Brazil
I firmly believe that the Lord wants me to love and serve with special zeal the people of God in Brooklyn and Queens. What makes the Diocese of Brooklyn so unique is the fact that this Diocese is entirely urban, with both high demographic concentration and cultural diversity.
Life as a seminarian is a life of prayer. We are strongly encouraged to develop a personal life of prayer, reading the Scripture, praying the Rosary, and reading spiritual books, such as the life of the saints. What I like best about all of this is that, as a seminarian, I always have at my disposition all the help I need in order to deepen my relationship with God. It was also important for me to look into the most important moments of my life, both the sad and the happy moments, and to discern which directions my life was taking in relation to Christ and the teachings of the Church. In this sense it was also important for me to read the Scriptures, specially the New Testament.
For one not sure about priesthood, I would say speak with a priest in your parish. It is very important to go, for God’s voice is soft and gentle and it can be relegated to the background of the noisy world of excessive communication of our days.
