Always remember that it is Christ who is calling you to share in His Priesthood and it is not the other way around.  Do you have the courage to say YES?

After the death of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II of happy memory; I started to read about his life; and the more that I read, the more that I found myself wondering and questioning what my calling in life might be.  After having witness the events surrounding the life and death of Pope John Paul II; and after much reading, reflection and prayer, I decided to enter the seminary.

Before entering the college seminary, I was attending York College where I was pursuing a degree in Accounting and Mathematics.  After saying yes to the Lord, I entered Cathedral Seminary Residence of the Immaculate Conception in January of 2006.  While in the college level formation program, I completed by undergraduate studies at Saint John’s University, from which I received a B.A. in Philosophy in May of 2008.  I am currently continuing my priestly studies at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception.

I was born in Pakistan, a country in which 95% of the population is Muslims, and where Christians are persecuted.  The Diocese of Brooklyn is multi-cultural and totally urban Church.  It was in this great diocese that I realized my call; and personally I cannot think of a better place to be a priest, one day please God.

The life of a seminarian is exciting and challenging. But through prayers and perseverance it is possible to handle the task appointed as a seminarian. The life of a seminarian is not solely academics; rather life also revolves around prayer and apostolic work.  This is a sacred time, a true blessing, a time where a man can truly deepen his faith and relationship with Jesus Christ.

It is God calls a man to the priesthood; though for ever priest there is usually a truly unique and different story.  The call comes to us as an individual, for God calls us personally; we must respond. A man (young or old) who hears the call of God should discern this invitation of Christ.  A man should speak with his parish priest and begin the discernment process. One suggestion would be to ask a priest his vocation story and that will definitely help you in understanding the call.
