Take time. My journey to priestly formation has taken much time. Remember that God works slowly, but more importantly, we need to take the time to hear God’s Call. So I say again, take the time; make the time, so that you can hear the greatest invitation in the world.
My journey to the priesthood has taken many different turns in life. First, there was my journey to the Church. I was raised in the Pentecostal tradition, and at the age of nine I converted to become a Catholic. The good Lord works in mysterious ways, we must be willing to listen to His whisper.
I have been blessed in my life by knowing a number of great priests; one of whom is Fr. Caleb Buchanan. The priests that I have met on my journey of faith have greatly influenced my decision to enter the seminary. I want to be a priest like them; I want to be a priest in Brooklyn.
I entered Cathedral Seminary Residence of the Immaculate Conception in 2005. I graduated from St. John's University with a B.A. in Philosophy in 2008. I am currently studying theology at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington. I must say that I enjoy the seminary; I enjoy the “brotherhood”, knowing that my brothers in Christ are there to help and pray for me along this road that we walk together.
For someone think about being a priest in Brooklyn and Queens, I would say take the time you need. Take time to visit the seminary, see the men who have already said “Yes” to the Lord, and are now walking to follow Christ. Take the time to talk to the priest of this great diocese; for there is no other diocese in the world quite like Brooklyn. I cannot think of another diocese that is as rich in terms of cultural diversity as Brooklyn.
